How can the problem of an effective biofilm failing to form for a prolonged period after the addition of packing material, resulting in poor treatment performance, be resolved?

Select high-quality HDPE media manufactured by Decycle, with a compressive strength of ≥25 N per particle and an outdoor service life of ≥15 years. Carry out regular inspections to check for media wear and tear, replacing 10–20 per cent of the old media annually whilst mixing new and old media together. Any damaged media should be retrieved and removed promptly upon discovery.
