Description
This Anaerobic Special BioMedia is an evolution of the established DC 19-2 MBBR design, optimized specifically for anaerobic biological wastewater treatment. The media element is a rotationally molded, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) cylinder featuring nineteen precisely engineered flow-through holes and prominent vertical surface striations (stripes) across its entire external surface. These key design elements work synergistically:
● 19 Flow-Through Holes: Promote optimal internal and external hydraulic flow patterns, ensuring efficient substrate and nutrient diffusion throughout the biofilm, minimizing dead zones, and enhancing mixing within the anaerobic reactor.
● Vertical Surface Striations: Significantly increase the protected surface area available for biofilm attachment. The striations create micro-turbulence at the media surface, improving mass transfer of substrates to the biomass and protecting the developing biofilm from excessive shear forces. This texture is crucial for initial biofilm formation and long-term retention of slow-growing anaerobic microorganisms.
● Anaerobic Optimization: The material density is carefully controlled to ensure proper fluidization under anaerobic mixing conditions while preventing flotation issues common in anaerobic environments. The design prioritizes creating an ideal habitat for diverse anaerobic microbial consortia responsible for complex degradation processes like acidogenesis and methanogenesis.
This media is ideal for applications including anaerobic digestion (pre-treatment or post-treatment), anaerobic lagoons, high-strength industrial wastewater treatment (e. g. , food & beverage, pharmaceutical, chemical), and other processes requiring robust anaerobic biofilm cultivation.
