DC K3 MBBR Media: Real Feedback from an Eastern European WWTP Upgrade

About three months ago, an eastern European wastewater engineering company reached out to us.

They were upgrading an old treatment plant that originally used a conventional activated sludge process. As the influent load increased, ammonia nitrogen in the effluent became unstable.

At first, they only wanted to buy some standard biofilm carrier media for testing.

But during the discussion, they brought up a very practical issue:

many MBBR media work well in lab-scale trials, but under continuous aeration in real operation, problems often appear — uneven biofilm attachment and high media wear.

In the end, they decided to test our DC K3 MBBR Media in a small MBBR reactor.

After about six weeks of operation, they sent us a new on-site video.

In the aeration tank, the DC K3 media showed a relatively uniform fluidization state, and the biofilm formation was faster than what they had seen with other products.

Their engineer specifically mentioned that they were impressed with the media’s stability under high aeration conditions — something they’ve been concerned about for a long time.

This kind of upgrade is actually becoming quite common in many municipal wastewater treatment projects today.

Instead of building entirely new large-scale treatment facilities, more engineering companies prefer to increase system capacity using the moving bed biofilm reactor process.

That’s also why terms like compact sewage treatment and biological wastewater treatment have been gaining more traction in overseas markets.

Currently, this batch of K3 biological media has been officially adopted in the next expansion phase of the project.

The performance has consistently met all requirements — in fact, slightly better than expected.

What we value most from this cooperation is that the client is now willing to share long-term operational data with us.
