Textile Dyeing and Finishing Plant in Izmir, Turkey
Project Background
Textile dyeing wastewater contains complex components including dyes, auxiliaries, surfactants, and high salt concentrations, making it one of the most challenging industrial wastewaters to treat. This plant discharges about 1,500 m³/day of wastewater. The original treatment system produced effluent COD levels of 200‑300 mg/L, failing to meet the EU Harmonized Standard requirement of COD < 150 mg/L, which affected product exports to the European market.
MBBR Retrofit Solution
A hydrolysis acidification + aerobic MBBR combined process was adopted. The aerobic stage used our high‑specific‑surface‑area MBBR Media (≥650 m²/m³) at a 55% filling ratio. The aeration system and influent distribution were also optimized to enhance biofilm activity.
Retrofit Results
● Effluent COD stably reduced to below 120 mg/L, compliant with EU standards.
● Color removal efficiency increased from 70% to 90%.
● Treatment capacity increased by 35%, accommodating future production expansion.
● System showed strong shock load resistance; stable operation even when dye formulations changed.
● Energy consumption reduced by about 25%.
